For Switch OLED variants, the kamikaze method is used, this is done to tap into DAT0 and is more reliable than tapping into it using the DAT0 flex PCB that connects to the solder ball on the eMMC.

While in there, your Switch will have all of its thermal paste replaced, so it’ll be good for another 5 or so years before it needs to be replaced again.

CUSTOM FIRMWARE NOTE: Currently (as of March 16th, 2026) there isn’t a version of Atmosphere compatible with your Switch if it’s on version 22.0.0. Keep this in mind if you decide to go through with this service. The latest firmware version I can mod is 21.2.0 or below. Once a new version of Atmosphere comes out (currently version 1.10.2), you want to update that first and then update your console’s firmware.

SHIPPING METHOD
Shipping Instructions: You may send either the entire Virtual Boy unit over, or if you have the tools you may send just the ribbon cable(s) and board(s). The latter option will save money on shipping and overall price, but is not recommended if you do not have the tools to open your Virtual Boy and remove the parts!
EYEPIECE REPAIR
From the factory the eyepieces’ ribbon cables are connected to the LED board by glue. Over time this glue loses its bond with the board, resulting in glitchy displays, blank displays, and, in some cases, lines. This service can either repair pre-existing issues or be preventative maintenance for your Virtual Boy so it can live a long, healthy life. It is always recommended to get both done!
DISCLAIMER: You will be informed if it is not a ribbon cable issue but rather a board issue, in which case is not repairable. In a case like that it’s a replacement that is required, of which I do not have on hand. If this is the case you will be refunded your money minus return shipping.
CAPACITOR REPLACEMENT
Not usual a necessary procedure, in my experience, capacitors haven’t been an issue in any of the consoles I’ve worked on. It could be worth doing if you’re wanting to ensure longevity.
DC-DC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT
The DC-DC Converter (also known as a buck converter) steps the 9 volt input down to 5 volts for the console to use. Further testing is required, but it does run cooler than the original DC-DC Converter, so it could result in longer battery life when using them. It is not common for the original DC-DC Converter to go bad, but it can occur.
SERVO VIBRATION FIX
If your console powers on but experiencing a loud vibration noise that cuts in and out repeatedly, your console’s servo board needs to be repaired. A fairly uncommon issue, but I have successfully repaired over half of the units I’ve seen with this issue.

Disc Drive not reading games and already tried multiple discs and cleaning the laser? No problem!
How to diagnose whether you just need your capacitors replaced or both the capacitors and laser.
Bad Capacitors
Disc still spins and laser still moves, but game is not read (tries for 5 - 10 seconds then fails)
Discs read the longer the GameCube has to warm up.
Bad Laser
Disc does not spin as the laser does not detect a disc inserted in the disc tray (fails almost instantly)
